MAGNUS accelerates data transmission and reduces the effect of latency associated with TCP satellite connections. Similar products exist, but with limitations that include shared clocks, ineffective with latencies greater than 400 Mbps.
MAGNUS only requires software to be installed on one side of the transmission chain (typically the client side). It is self-tuning, with the installer, at the start of a session, setting inbound and outbound IP address, and then acting as a gateway/router.
As a wrapper, MAGNUS enhances many protocols, thus reducing the latency associated with high bandwidth, hi latency connections. In the absence of MAGNUS, over a 200 Mbps link data transfers at 180 kb per connection. Using MAGNUS the data will transfer at 19,400 kb per connection, a 180 percent increase in transfer rate.
In operation, MAGNUS transmits acknowledgements (ACK’s) early and dynamically adjusts how early ACK’s are sent based on the negative acknowledgements (NACK’s) received. MAGNUS initiates renegotiation of window sizing to assist in error management based on link conditions. It further improves overall net performance by assigning user bandwidth windows equally to further reduce effects of latency. MAGNUS functions with latencies exceeding 400 Mbps.
There is no other technology available today that equals the proven performance characteristics of MAGNUS for accelerating data transmissions and reducing the effect of latency in TCP protocol satellite data transmissions. ODEN-M data compression can be used in conjunction with MAGNUS to further increase network efficiency.
